Welcome to Stowe Vermont
Stowe Vermont is a 200 year old, world famous, historic village. She is a vibrant, sophisticated, four season, international resort which offers abundant historical, cultural and year-round recreational activities....something for the whole family.
And more than just a "resort destination", Stowe is a Community....over 4000 friends and neighbors live here and call it "home"....a very upscale town which has retained lots of the small village charm....a town proud of their School system where almost 90% of their students go on to college...a town that supports its nearby hospital system offering excellent emergency services and great care for all residents and visitors….a town that boasts its own Fire Department, Police Department and Rescue Squad.
Four Seasons of Activities
Winter ….
In the Winter, its Skiing….Stowe has been known as the "Ski Capital of the East"…. recently ranked #1 in Eastern North America by both Ski and Skiing Magazines.
Stowe's downhill ski areas are located on Mt. Mansfield, Vermont's highest peak ... which offers 2,360 vertical feet of top-to-bottom fall line skiing and riding, topped by approx. 260 glorious inches of snow annually.
Cross Country Skiing…. its been said that there are more "miles" of Cross Country Ski trails in Stowe than any other place within the USA.
Stowe's expansive cross-country system was begun by the Von Trapp family, (Trapp Family Lodge) who is noted for building the first commercial X-country ski center in the United States.
Spring ….
Spring in Stowe is a great time to enjoy the outdoors….
Make no mistake…. there is still plenty of skiing in Stowe during Spring season ..... But it is also a time when bikers are out on the roads, hikers are visiting the summits of nearby mountains, and fishermen are enjoying the opening of trout season….while still others are enjoying the sweetness of taking part in our Maple Sugaring season.
Celebrate Spring on Stowe's Rec Path…. Stowe's award-winning Recreation Path offers a 5.3-mile paved trail that starts in Stowe Village, winds its way through forests and meadows, and crosses the West Branch River 11 times on arched wooden bridges.
The Stowe Recreation Path loses its winter identity in the Spring season ... in Winter its a "cross country ski track", and when Spring rolls around, it resumes its traditional role as a haven for bikers, joggers, inline skaters and just plain strollers.
Our local Rivers attract the many kayakers and canoeists who enjoy the white water excitement that comes each spring.
And….let us not forget that late Spring heralds the start of the Golf season in Stowe !
Summer ….
During the summer months, visitors from all over the globe flock to Stowe to enjoy our fresh Mountain air, mild Summer Temperatures (average hi 70's in the daytime and mid 50's In the evenings), and to be part of the wonderful country surroundings .... hiking in the hills, swimming in lakes and streams, or to enjoy golf on any of our Championship length courses, including our own Stowe Country Club.
Hike, Bike - and Lots More !
The region has hundreds of kilometers of hiking trails and wonderful mountain bike routes. Cyclists can ride on 103 miles of road in Stowe--29 miles are blacktop and 74 miles are unpaved for relatively easy mountain biking.
There is fly fishing, canoeing, kayaking and glider plane soaring far above the hills and valleys below.
Festivals liven up the Summer….Virtually every weekend boasts of music and art festivals ... concerts take place all summer long. Major events such as our Antigue car show (over 800 cars), Hot Air Balloon festival, ... the annual Flower show, Dog show, Craft shows, Horse show, Professional Tennis Tournaments, Golf Tournaments, Polo Tournaments, the British Invasion Car show, Outdoor Concerts In the meadow, Summer and dinner Theater, etc. etc.
Fall ….
Stowe during the Fall season is magical…... "This is when the leaves change color"
The Stowe valley literally explodes with color upon Autumn's arrival….which has inspired many artists, photographers, and calendar makers, etc. It is one of America's natural wonders, and is not to be missed!
It is also a great time for hiking and bike riding in late fall. Country roads covered with fresh fallen leaves provide a magical experience for hikers and bikers alike.
